The mountain views during the Rara lake trek 14 days are outstanding. First of all, let's talk about landscapes. This part of the Himalayas boasts those perfect paintings like landscapes. The lush green hills with a river/lake in front of it. The yaks and mules grazing on the meadows and waterfall thundering at one side of the space. And the snow-capped mountains in the backdrop.

Chuchemara Peak (4,039 m), Ruma Kand (3,731 m), Malika Kand (3,444 m), Sisne Himal (5,911 m), and Mt. Saipal (7,031 m) are some of the mountains you witness duringothe Rara Lake trekking. Apart from the Rara Lake itself, you come across rivers and passes. Likewise, the rich cultural representation of the locals along the way is worth the view.

Difficulty

Rara lake trek is a moderate/difficult trek. The terrain is rough and steep. We recommend this trek to someone who has previous hiking experience. The isolation and limited services along the trekking route, Rara lake trekking furthermore difficult. Along with good fitness, the trekkers have to be mentally prepared to endure the scarcity of the basic tourist infrastructure that other famous trekking routes offer.

Altitude Sickness

The Rara lake trek does see that much of a high altitude. So, in terms of altitude sickness, there is a very slight chance of it. Our Rara lake trek itinerary is well designed and does not ascend more than 500 metres a day. Therefore, you'll get enough time to acclimatise. Likewise, the itinerary also has rest days.

Some of the symptoms of altitude sickness you should know are difficulty in breathing, insomnia, headache, and loss of appetite. We understand it may get tough to drink lots of water during the trek, but you have to keep yourself hydrated to avoid altitude sickness.

Preparation

To prepare for the Rara lake trek, do exercises that involve cardio. Activities like swimming, jogging, running, and cycling are perfect to build your stamina. Also, if you are going to get a new pair of shoes, then wear them a few times and get used to them.

Trek to Rara Lake in the spring and autumn seasons to enjoy a fantastic trek. The months of March, April, October, and November have the most stable weather and clear views of the mountains. The breezy days with the greenery of the region make the trek excellent.

Apart from these two seasons, you can also consider trekking in early December if you fancy enjoying the winter landscape and frozen lake. Trekking in winter is very challenging so prepare nicely.

    Accommodation

Rara lake trek is a teahouse trek. You can also do this trek as a camping trek. We provide full board support for camping treks. On the other hand, the teahouse is simple and clean. The rooms are double beds with clean blankets. The mattresses will not be the most comfortable but good enough to spend the night.

The washroom is usually common. Some places may have private washrooms. Likewise, there are basic facilities provided in the teahouse. You may not get a hot shower everywhere.

    Meals

The meal options provided in the teahouse are simple too. As the Rara lake trek route is very isolated and rarely visited by trekkers, the trail has not grown muchin terms of tourist infrastructure like other famous trekking routes in Nepal.

The best meal option is Nepali dal bhat tarkari. It's a filling meal Nepalese have for lunch and dinner. Steamed rice is served with lentil soup and veggies, along with a few other side dishes. You can have a veg or non-veg meal as per your wish. Make sure to ask about the freshness of the meat.

    Group/private joining

Join a group and trek to Rara lake, or go on a private group trekking with your friends. Likewise, do solo trekking with the best guide and a porter. We are very flexible with our policy and also provide tailor-made treks.

If you want to join the Rara lake trek at the last minute, contact us and let us know your requirements. We'll provide you with the best service even if you book a trek at the last minute.

    Child Policy

Trekking with a child in the Himalayas can get very challenging, specifically in isolated regions like this one. Rara Lake trekking is not an easy trek in terms of facilities along the way, so you have to be very well prepared if you want to do this with your kid.

For a better experience, we recommend doing a camping Rara trek. Get in touch with us to know more in detail about our child policy and what we can offer you.

    Travel Insurance

Given the isolation of the Rara lake trek route, we advise travel insurance that covers emergency air evacuation. If any medical emergency occurs with you while trekking, we need travel insurance to give you prompt help. A foreigner cannot take out travel insurance in Nepal, so get it in your country and carry documents with you.
