Mardi Himal Trek, in general, is an offbeat, short trek. Combining yoga in the journey makes the trek even more fantastic. The guided yoga sessions every day will help you bond with nature deeply and make the trek a little easier. Located east of the Annapurna base camp trail, the Mardi Himal yoga trek explores a relatively newly discovered trekking route (opened back in 2012).

In recent days, Mardi Himal yoga trekking has been getting popular as one of the best destinations to enjoy yoga trekking. Still, the Mardi yoga trekking route is not as bustling as other famous treks like Ghorepani Poon Hill and Annapurna Sanctuary. This yoga trek is perfect for anyone looking for a more immersive and peaceful venture.

During the Mardi Himal yoga trek 12 days, you trek with a professional yoga instructor. The day begins and ends with fantastic yoga sessions in gorgeous backdrops. Mountains like Annapurn (8,091 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Hiunchuli (6,441 m), Fishtail (6,993 m), Nilgiri (7,061 m), Lamjung Himal (6,983 m), Mardi Himal (5,587 m), Tent Peak (5,695 m), etc decorates the trail.

What makes the Mardi Himal yoga trek in Nepal furthermore exciting is not retracing the path once you reach the highest point of the trek. From the Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m), you'll use another route to descend to Jhinu Danda (1,800 m) and end the trek at Siwa (1,150 m). This part of the trail is more inclined towards cultural experience as resided by people of different communities.

How long is the Mardi Himal yoga trek?

Mardi Himal yoga trek can be around 8 days long to 15 days, depending upon the itinerary. You can always design the itinerary as per your needs. Our Mardi yoga trekking is 12 days long. Each day you cover around 49 km.

Difficulty

As we said, the Mardi Himal yoga trek has an offbeat trail, but it doesn't mean you need to have previous trekking experience and strong physical fitness, unlike other offbeat routes in the Himalayas. Regardless of its off-the-beaten route, the Mardi yoga trek is recommended to beginner trekkers who love adventure and challenges.

The trail is rough and densely forested. There are steep and narrow paths too. The final ascent goes along the steep ridge of Mardi Himal. Similarly, the services in the tea houses are very basic. Thus you also have to prepare your mind to adjust to the bare minimum modern comforts.

Preparation

Not much is needed to prepare for Mardi Himal yoga trekking. Make sure you can walk 6 to 7 hours a day. To do so, go on long walks, and if possible, go on similar terrain to make a habit. You can do cardio activities like swimming, cycling, running, jogging, hiking, etc to increase your stamina.

Altitude sickness

Starting at 1,650 metres (Dhampus), the trail ascends up to 4,500 metres (Mardi Himal Base Camp). Because of the high elevation, you have to be aware of altitude sickness. However, our Mardi Himal yoga trek itinerary has a gentle pace, and daily altitude rise is minimal, so the chances of altitude sickness are quite low.

We cannot deny the risk of altitude sickness on the Mardi Himal yoga trek, but our expert team and adversity protocol will keep you safe & sound. Precautions like getting ample sleep, drinking plenty of water, and not consuming alcoholic drinks or smoking will help you avoid altitude sickness.

    Essential Info

    Best time

The Mardi Himal yoga trek's best time is spring and autumn. Trekking from March to April in the spring is fabulous because of all the seasonal vegetation and flowers. The trail bloomed with a diverse range of flora & fauna. Whereas, October to November makes the journey intriguing, thanks to major Nepali festivals in the autumn season.

Apart from these two factors both seasons have stable weather and clear breezy days. The excellent mountain views and the moderate climate attracts hundreds of trekkers from around the world in spring & autumn for trekking in the Himalayas.

    Accommodation

Mardi Himal yoga trek is a teahouse trek. As it is one of the less-visited trekking trails in the Annapurna region, the trail is not grown that much, which means the basic infrastructure. Most of the trail goes through lush forests, where you will find a few teahouses. The teahouses here are very simple, with double beds and shared washrooms. The rooms are small and can get cold in the nights & mornings. Carry a good-quality sleeping bag with you.

    Food

The meals you will get during the venture depend on the menu of the teahouse. There will be quite a variety of dishes on the menu. Nepali and Tibetan cuisine are mostly available. You may get dishes like a sandwich, pasta, and steak at some places too. Usually, the best meal is dal bhat, and you can combine additional veggies or curry as per your wish. Likewise, there is toast, egg, soup, porridge, fried potatoes, momo, noodles, thukpa, Tibetan bread, etc also available.

    Travel Insurance

Because of the lack of proper transportation and health infrastructure, we suggest getting travel insurance for the Mardi Himal yoga trek to our guests. Mardi Himal is an isolated, remote area with high altitudes. While trekking, if your body reacts adversely to the changes in the environment or if any other medical emergency occurs (uncontrollable with first aid), we have to air evacuate you to the nearby hospital.

Travel insurance is a safety net for you in an adventure like this in a new country. So, do get it and double-check all the clauses. You have to add emergency helicopter evacuation and medical bills in the travel insurance.

    Child Policy

To trek with your child, get in touch with us. We'll provide you with all the necessary information for the trekking. Mardi Himal yoga trekking is doable with a kid. However, you have to be well prepared for the journey.
