It's not easy to see the iconic Himalayan mountains. You have to pay your respects through long walks on trodden trails for the best views. But the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking is one of the few treks in the Himalayas that has a gentle pace and relatively easier trekking route. This is a family-friendly trek. You can trek with your kids, grannies, and parents.

You can slowly travel to Nepal just to hit the trails to Poon Hill or join this short trek if you are in Kathmandu/Pokhara for a quick gateway. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek route ascends through the Annapurna Conservation Area. The trail is abundant in flora and fauna. You'll come across a range of wildflowers and birds while trekking.

Poon Hill trek is the ultimate venture in the Annapurna region to introduce yourself to the Himalayas and people from different religious backgrounds. In our 10 days of Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking, we spend four days on the trail and get to explore the two biggest cities of Nepal; Kathmandu and Pokhara. We have a guided city tour in the package for you.

Mountain Views

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek Nepal is known for its dramatic mountain landscapes. The trail offers scenery from the very first day. Ghorepani village welcomes you with a tempting view of the snow-capped mountains like Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South, Mt. Nilgiri (7,061 m), Mt. Fishtail (6,993 m), Mt. Hiunchuli (6,441 m), Mt. Gangapurna (7,455 m), Lamjung Himal (6,983 m), Tilicho Peak (7,134 m), etc.

Likewise, from Poon Hill, you get to witness a gorgeous sunrise. This viewpoint is surrounded by the Himalayan mountains all around it. Not only that, the drive between Kathmandu and Pokhara too offers breathtaking scenery.

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek route

The journey begins with a long drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From here, you drive to Nayapul and walk along the Modi Khola. Passing by Birethanti (1,015 m), you follow the north bank of Bhurungdi Khola and hike to Hille (1,495 m) before reaching the final spot of our first day of the trek, Tikhedhunga (1,570 m).

The next day, crossing a suspension bridge, you hike to Ulleri at 2,080 m and continue trekking pastures and terraced fields. The trail then crosses two more streams and goes by lush forests to Ghorepani village (2,850 m). The following day, we'll wake up early in the morning to catch the sunrise from Poon Hill (3,210 m). The trail is steep and rocky.

Further, we descend to Tadapani (2,610 m) and trek to Ghandruk village (2,012 m). It is also a very famous village. The trek ends here, and we drive to Pokhara and then to Kathmandu another day.

Trek Difficulty

The only major difficult part about Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is the long 6 to 7 hours walk each day. You have to be healthy and can walk. The accommodation and meal options are superb, so you'll not have a tough time with limited facilities.

The trail ascends through the densely forested paths, which can be a little exhausting for some trekkers. But then again, it's the Himalayas, and you have to bear at least this.

Poon Hill Altitude Sickness

The chances of altitude sickness during the Poon Hill trekking are very low. The trail only goes up to 3,210 meters, following a gentle pace, so you'll get a lot of time to adjust to the elevation.

If you feel uncomfortable while trekking or see symptoms like headache, breathing problems, insomnia, etc, then inform your guide and take proper preventive measures.
