Tamang Heritage trail route is easily accessible from Kathmandu. Located 124 km north of the city, one can reach the starting point of the trek within 6-7 hours of the comfortable scenic drive. The Tamang Heritage Trail lies between the majestic Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himal ranges. The trail ascends around the Langtang Valley and passes by picturesque villages. 

The main highlight of Tamang Heritage Trekking is the people of the Tamang community. They are believed to be the descendants of Tibetans and are also known as the early settlers of the hilly & mountain areas. They follow Tibetan Buddhism. Most of their practices, traditions, and customs resemble Tibetans. 

Leaving the bustling route of the Langtang Gosaikunda trek, you embark on a relatively less crowded trail. Tamang Heritage Trek is a very gratifying journey. Tamang Heritage Trail & Mountain Views

So, the Tamang Heritage Trek route ascends through lush forests of rhododendron and pine. You walk following the verdant foothills and pass by many remote settlement areas. The trail has many ascends and descends through a range of woodlands. Likewise, the landscapes during the Tamang Heritage Trekking are stunning too.

On your first day of the trek, you spend the night in Gatlang. Before leaving this village, we hike to Parvathi Kunda, a holy lake. The scenery from this place is just breathtaking. Throughout the trek, mountains like Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, Shishapangma, etc are some of the Himalayan mountains seen along the way.

Difficulty

Tamang Heritage Trek is an easy and short trek. This trek is for everyone who can walk. No previous trekking experience or any advanced trek preparations are needed for Tamang Heritage Trekking. The trail does have a handful of ascend and descend, but it's doable. 

Altitude Sickness

The highest altitude we touch during the Tamang Heritage Trek is around 2,600 metres. The low elevation of this trek makes it less risky to altitude sickness. Preparation

Our team welcomes you at the international airport in Kathmandu. We escort you to the hotel after a small meet & greet at the airport. In the late evening, meet the core team over welcome dinner. We have kept this day free, so you can take your time to explore your surroundings.

We begin this exciting day in the morning with a delicious breakfast. After that, meet the tour guide who will assist you during your visit to the historical sites. You'll be visiting places like Swayambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple.

 

The later afternoon is trek preparation time. We introduce you to your trek guide. He will help you with the final packing and check if everything is okay or not.

Before we begin trekking, we have to reach Syabrubesi. From Kathmandu, it's a long but scenic and comfortable ride to Syabrubesi. Along the drive, we'll see beautiful views of rivers, waterfalls, green hills, and small villages. The ride also offers a view of Ganesh Himal.

We begin trekking today. The trail ascends to Gatlang. We walked along the foothills and terraced fields. Upon reaching here, we enjoy the cultural program by locals. Gatlang is a beautiful village on a hillside resided by Tamangs. Later in the day, we visit Parvathi Kunda Lake and an ancient monastery.

The trail ascends to Tatopani, offering a stunning panorama of Langtang Himal and Ganesh Himal. Tatopani is famous for its natural hot springs. At the end of the day, we can enjoy the hot springs by paying a few extra bucks.

From Tatopani, the trail goes through Brimdang. We walk by dense alpine forests and ascend to Nagthali. Further, we continue descending to Thuman. On the way, we can see views of Kerung Himal, Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung. Passing by all these villages will let you witness the rich cultural heritage of locals residing in this region.

After breakfast, we retrace the trail to Briddim. It is a Tibetan Buddhis village with a stunning backdrop of Langtang Himal. The trail is the same as before. We visit the Dukchu monastery here and spend time with locals.

Today is our last day of the trek. The trail from Briddim descends to Syabrubesi. We walk, following the same route back. The views of snow-capped mountains and green hills are tempting along the way. The trail drops down through dense forests and remote villages.

    Best time

    March to April and October to November are the ideal time for trekking anywhere in the Himalayas, including the Tamang Heritage trail. Everything is fine in these months, from stable weather to pleasant climate and clear views. You can also do this trek in winter.

    Accommodation

    Tamang Heritage Trek is a homestay trek. It means you stay overnight with local families along the way. This is the main highlight of this trek. The rooms are cosy and of course, give you a home vibe. 

    The homestay accommodation offers a close insight into the lifestyle of the locals. The rooms are small in size and equipped with double beds and clean blankets. The washroom is common. 

    Food

    The meals during the Tamang Heritage Trek are quite simple. You get simple meals that combine rice, lentil soup, and veggies. It's enough to fill you and provide you with all the energy. Likewise, it tastes delicious too. Apart from it, you can get curries, chapati, dhido, porridge, soup, mashed potatoes, thukpa, noodles, momo, etc
