Best time to travel in Nepal

The endless blue skies and glorious mountains can mesmerise anyone with their beauty. Travelling to Nepal can take some time off from your everyday distractions and make you fall into the arms of nature. But, all of this is only possible if you choose the right season to travel.

Trek/tour in spring (March to April):

When we hear spring, blooming flowers, beautiful and mild temperatures, glittering lakes, and lush forests cross our minds. Spring in Nepal is no different from that. The average temperature in spring is about 8 degrees celsius to 28 degrees celsius, which makes the days warmer and the nights cooler. In lower elevation treks such as Ghorepani Poon Hill trek, Annapurna Base Camp Trek, etc, the temperatures are mild, making the experience extremely pleasant. On the other hand, locations with an elevation above 4,000 metres make the overall temperature moderate and warm, leaving the cloudless clear skies.

Trek/tour in summer/monsoon (May to September):

Trekking or touring during monsoon is not delightful as the weather can turn stormy anytime. In high elevations, it is not an easy job to predict the weather. The temperature is generally warm and humid, ranging from 19 degrees celsius to 27 degrees celsius. The humidity and muddy trail together make the climbing extremely hard. Occasional thunderstorms and landslides also occur in the monsoon. Though you can still give a shot to rain shadow treks in the Himalayan region, such as Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo, or Nar Phu.

Trek/tour in autumn (October to November):

There is no right time other than the autumn in Nepal for trekking. With the ideal season for trekking comes more number of trekkers from all around the world. Autumn offers moderate weather conditions, which are neither too hot nor too cold making it a favourable season for trekking. The temperature fluctuates from 18 degrees celsius to 22 degrees celsius. Since autumn comes after the monsoon, which has cleared the dust from the atmosphere leaving the washed and fresh environment and a clear crystal view of the beautiful valley and mountain peaks.

Trek/tour in winter (December to February):

The months in winter come with their pros and cons. Though these months are indeed less crowded compared to the crowd in the autumn season, and if someone is concerned about that, they can plan their trek in winter. But keep in mind that the temperature will not be as friendly as you assume, ranging from 9 to 0 degrees Celsius. If your body can tolerate it, you can plan your trek without worrying. However, one more disadvantage is morning fog in winters, due to which some high passes in the Everest region, such as Cho La, Renjo La, and Kongma La, are closed.
